Quote from The Recognition Sutras

The Recognition Sutras: Illuminating a 1,000-year-old Spiritual Masterpiece

by Christopher D. Wallis

Mattamayura Press, Boulder, Colorado, 2017.    528 pp.

"Awareness, free and independent, is the cause of the performance of everything.

Awareness itself is the Goddess, the Supreme Power.

She is free and independent, meaning that she consists of absolute Self-awareness, and She is not different from Lord Siva.

She is the cause of the performance of everything: 'everything' means all the Principles of Reality from Sadasiva down to Earth; 'performance' means the creation [of all these Principles], their continued manifestation, and their dissolution, meaning their coming to rest within the Supreme Knower.

For when she is flowing, the world appears, and remains there; when her flow ceases, it disappears -- your own experience is the witness of this.

Now anything else -- such as maya, prakrti, and so on -- could not be the cause of any object or aspect of reality because anything separate from the Light of Awareness would be unperceivable, and therefore cannot be said to exist. On the other hand, if something is manifest to perception, for that very reason it is inseparable from, and of one nature with, the Light of Manifestation, and the nature of this light is simply Awareness.  So Awareness alone, and nothing else, must be considered the cause of anything that appears."
