Lately, there have been few wildlife sightings. It is winter, and geese occasionally fly over, squawking in the frozen sky, but the yard is barren and the fields beyond the fences are brown and still. Another couple of months, and the weeds and flowers will be back, and along with this greening, the insects and migrating birds. And then, once again, prisoners and guards alike, we will be hard-pressed to ignore the mysterious pulse of God, these comings and goings that never end. (p. 26)
