Quote from Glimpses of Raja Yoga

Glimpses of Raja Yoga: An Introduction to Patanjali's Yoga Sutras

by Vimala Thakar

Shambhala Publications, Boulder, Colorado, 2005        118 pages

In Raja Yoga there is no specialization only on sound, only on breath, only on physical postures, only on devotion, or only on jnana, or knowledge. Instead, it is a holistic path. Raja Yoga is the culmination of these different branches of yoga that have specialized in one or two directions. Raja Yoga is not a specialization in one direction. In its compass it takes the whole life - individual and collective; physical, verbal, and psychic; human and cosmic; birth and death.  (p. 10)
