Sadness, Love, Openness: The Buddhist Path of Joy
by Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche
Shambhala Publications, Boulder, Colorado, 2018 108 pagesDASHED ILLUSIONS
We need to become aware of impermanence. The realization that everything disappears and that everything is unreliable is a devastating disappointment. As our dreams are shattered, we develop a nauseated sense of having had enough, and that revulsion in turn strengthens and nourishes our resolve to break free. Without that weariness, we lose focus. We become lazy and put off our training. Therefore, it is crucial that we realize the fundamental futility of our own existence. (p. 83)
